CEHAT in collaboration with UN WOMEN India organized a "Consultation on Safe and Inclusive Tourism for Women in Goa: Leveraging Local Expertise and Best Practices in the Hospitality Industry" on 3 December 2024 at Hotel Fortune Miramar, Panjim, Goa. The consultation brought together thirty representatives with diverse expertise in tourism and hospitality, as well as civil society organizations, to reflect on the status and vision for women's safety and inclusion in these sectors.
The roundtable focused on two thematic discussions; (1) safety of women tourists and workers in Goa and (2) developing women's leadership and entrepreneurship in tourism and hospitality. Industry professionals provided key insights into the dimensions and challenges of the issue and shared many best practices they have instituted to bolster women's safety and encourage their inclusion.
Priya Varadarajan, Founder and Chief Imagination Officer at the Bangalore-based organization, DURGA, presented the model of Active Bystander Intervention and discussed how it can also be applied in the hospitality industry to prevent escalation of sexual harassment. The consultation was convened as part of CEHAT and UN WOMEN India's observation of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence where we reaffirmed our commitment to ensuring #NoExcuse for violence, and asserting that women have the right to #FunwithoutFear in all public spaces.
