CEHAT signing of an MoU with the Government of Karnataka to ‘Establish a Health Systems Response to VAW’

With the signing of an MoU with the Government of Karnataka to ‘Establish a Health Systems Response to VAW’, CEHAT is now working with the health systems of 8 states in India. The MoU was signed with NHM Karnataka, to pilot an intervention with 3 district hospitals and a medical college hospital for a period of one year. The three sites are from Bangalore.

  1. K.C. General Hospital
  2. Jayanagar General Hospital
  3. Bowring & Lady Curzon Medical College and Research Institute

The fourth is a district hospital from the near by Chickballapur District.

The main three objective of the intervention is 

  1. To create a cadre of trained Doctors and Nurses who will be core trainers on enhancing the skills of health care providers to respond to violence by offering  psycho social support. 
  2. Train the counselors to offer counseling for violence against women & children
  3. Develop a multi sectoral response to violence.

While NHM and the respective hospitals will deploy health care providers for training and develop SOPs and protocols to achieve the objectives, CEHAT will offer technical support, guidance and close monitoring & evaluation of the intervention. 

The kick off meeting was conducted on the 30th of December 2020 chaired by Jawaid Akhtar, IAS Additional Chief Secretary to Govt. of Karnataka, Health & Family Welfare Services, Dr. Arundathi Chandrashekhar MD, NHM Karnataka, all the heads of the Hospitals, the Nodal officer for the project & Nodal officers from each hospital.
