CEHAT, in collaboration with Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government Medical College, Vidisha, organized a Pre-Conference CME on the theme "Navigating the Labyrinth of Medical Law with Forensic Insight" on 26th September 2024. The event brought together more than 50 faculty members from Forensic Medicine and Toxicology across Madhya Pradesh and neighbouring states.
In the first session, Ajinkya Deshmukh from CEHAT, provided brief overview of the Gender in Medical Education (GME) project, followed by discussing key terms, sex and gender and various gender concepts.
In the second session, Dr. Jagadeesh (Head, FMT department, VIMS, Bangalore) addressed the topic of comprehensive care for sexual assault survivors. He emphasized the critical importance of consent and confidentiality in handling cases of sexual violence. The session also included a review of relevant legislation and recent amendments related to sexual violence in India, along with an exploration of changes in CBME competencies, particularly regarding the interpretation of hymen and virginity status. This session concluded with a hands-on exercise, where participants practiced filling out the MoHFW proforma.
The final session focused on demystifying the medicolegal aspects of gendered injuries. The role of forensic medicine doctors in handling cases involving gendered injuries, such as burns, accidental poisoning, attempted suicides, and dowry deaths, was thoroughly explained. The session also included group discussions on case studies.
All sessions received positive feedback from the participants for their relevance and practical application in the field of forensic medicine.
